Takeda has reported data from the randomized P-IV (VERDICT) treat-to-target trial, conducted by Alimentiv in collaboration with Takeda, evaluating IV Entyvio (vedolizumab) in adults (N=672) with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (UC) randomized to 3 increasingly stringent corticosteroid-free (CSF) targets: symptomatic remission (Group 1), symptomatic + endoscopic remission (Group 2), or disease clearance (symptomatic + endoscopic + histologic remission; Group 3); data were presented at UEGW 2026 & published in the United European Gastroenterology Journal
The trial met its 1EP, with the disease-clearance group showing a longer time to first UC-related complication vs the symptomatic-remission group (HR 0.33; p=0.0014), reducing UC complication risk by ~70% up to 80wks. after target achievement; ~60% (400/672) of pts achieved their assigned CSF target by Wk. 48 (Group 1: 74.1%; Group 2: 56.3%; Group 3: 52.1%) & among achieved-target pts, 57% reached disease clearance at Wk. 16
>80% of pts achieving the Group 2 target also achieved histologic remission at Wk. 48, while time to UC-related complication was similar between Groups 2 & 3 (HR 1.10; p=0.8023); AE rates were similar across groups & unaffected by treatment escalation, with no new safety signals through 96wks.; Entyvio is a gut-focused Ξ±4Ξ²7 integrin-binding biologic for UC & Crohnβs disease
